It seems as if the electric utility lobby in California has been hard at work influencing politicians against the consumer. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised, but it sure is disappointing. So in answer to the question of is going solar worth it, I submit this email that I received from a solar company which I received today. Decide for yourself. Meanwhile, at the bottom of this article is a REAL-TIME asset for you. It will, each time you visit this site, display those properties in which the seller’s agent checked the box for solar panels. (Keep in mind, many agents are lazy and do not professionally complete the listing input form, so there may be more properties with solar than what is actually shown on the MLS)

Is going solar worth it?

Hi George,

I hope you're having a great holiday season so far!

I wanted to send a quick email about a new policy passed by California's Public Utilities Commission (which includes Southern California Edison), just in case you haven't heard about it yet:

On December 15th, the commission passed a new set of guidelines for how to deal with customers who have solar panels on their roof. Long story short, it's definitely skewed in favor of the utilities and not the homeowners. Instead of getting back a fair market rate on the electricity that your solar panels send back into the grid, this new policy cuts that down by 75%. This new policy will start taking effect next April, but anyone who at least submits installation paperwork before then will remain under the old fair-market system for at least 20 years.

So mainly I wanted to email to let you know that if you will ever want solar for your roof, then now is the time, regardless of which solar company you go with. More specifically, between now and April 2023 so that you can ensure your system is treated under the old, more beneficial policies.

Going solar after April 2023 will very likely still produce net savings, however those savings will be drastically less, to the point where most people won't think it's worth it.

If you have further questions or are interested in getting a new quote, let me know! You can also give me a call at (360) 348-2277 any time.

In any case, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Best,
